Saturday, September 29, 2007 Go: Always first By Charlene Go Lakwatsa
IN a city as progressive as ours, Cebu has not only made a name for itself, being the preferred venue for international events such as the Asean Summit or big scale parties like DJ Kaskade’s Love Mysterious Tour, we also seem to be the first stop when it comes to having world renowned DJs grace our party scene.
Loft Resto-Lounge took the party to another level when internationally renowned DJs the Teichmann Brothers and Rubber Inc. brought their latest mixes to Cebu.
After six years of focusing on studio work, Manila based Rubber Inc. is back in effect with their music and are hitting the club scene once again. To those that are unfamiliar with the duo, Malek Lopez and Noel de Brackinghe initiated the concept of live dance music in the Philippines back in 1998. Often mistaken for DJs, they use an arsenal of keyboards, mixers, effects, samplers and sequencers to create music rather than just spinning music using CDs or records during live events.
The tandem set the electrifying atmosphere as partygoers danced the night away eagerly waiting to hear the first set of the well-known German brothers, the Teichmann brothers.
Aside from having world-renowned DJs stop over the Queen City of the South first, radio station Y101 Always First took us back to the age of classic rock with Bootleg Gold Live. The radio show, was conceptualized by Y101’s CEO Martha Tuason and it is the first classic rock radio show to hit Cebu airwaves. Bootleg Gold celebrated its second anniversary with a big bash at the Sandtrap in Banilad. The party featured songs that we grew up with- hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s and tunes that we rarely get to hear these days. To officially kick off the event, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena and Vice Mayor Mike Rama each sounded off a Harley Davidson while featured band of the evening Snafu performed the song “Born to be Wild.”
