Saturday, September 29, 2007 Honda takes most trophies
HONDA Motor World Inc. pinned its hopes on its badminton players to hoard most trophies in the major competitions of the recently concluded Borromeo Cup sports festival, which will have its awarding today at the Taste of Mandarin at the Countrymall.
Honda went against other company teams from the Borromeo Group of Companies in ten different competitions, which ended earlier this week in separate venues.
Honda’s badminton stalwarts snatched two of the three titles up for grabs and pulled off a stunning win in volleyball in the week-long hostilities. The badminton squad of Joseph Belano, Bernard Bardoz and Mervyn Gonzales stamped their class in the men’s event, extending their rule twice over.
Vengeance
In the mixed doubles, Juncats Catubig, Brenda Jusay, Armando Cadenas and Marilyn Jabadan retaliated after last year’s loss and wrested the title from Astron Gestus.
Honda’s biggest win is in the volleyball competition. Honda arrested a ten-year reign of Astron Gestus in the volleyball courts, reducing the latter to smithereens, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17.
Astron, however, did not go home empty-handed as Bambi Manatad, Anabelle Chavez and Mean Hortelano won in the women’s badminton.
Another title for Astron came from the minor events as it received the best-in-uniform diadem and Daniel Casia won the Mr. Sportsfest title
Gathering
Winning the top plum in basketball is Ford Cebu, which took the crown after defeating Honda, 43-37. Ford’s Dessa Dale Eviota stood out in the Ms. Sportsfest. The last title for Ford came from the dance competition.
The Borromeo Cup is a sporting event that gathers employees of the Borromeo Group of Companies, including Motor Ace Phils., Performance Motors and the Borromeo Brothers Estate Inc. in various sporting activities.
The winners will receive corresponding cash prizes and trophies in today’s awarding ceremonies, which will be graced by one of the top honchos Chipi Borromeo. (MCB)
