Tudela cop tags 3 who shot him

THREE men were arrested yesterday afternoon for the attempt on the life of a Tudela town police investigator in Camotes Island in northern Cebu.

Odon Garciano, Avelino Villarmino and Rodolfo Apas were identified by PO3 Ismael Florentino.

They were taken to the hospital in Cebu City where Florentino is confined.

Garciano had visited Florentino the night he was shot.

Florentino was investigating a land dispute involving Garciano and the latter reportedly went to his house to complain.

Earlier that day, Garciano’s opponent, Analyn Cebios, hired a surveyor so she could place markers around the disputed lot.

Garciano told Florentino that he did not agree with the results and wanted to hire his own surveyor.

Florentino and his wife noted that Garciano was uneasy the whole time he was in their house.

When he escorted Garciano out of his house, Florentino thought Garciano had already left.

When the first shot was fired and Florentino fell on the ground, he saw Garciano, Villarmino and Apas.

Florentino suffered gunshot wounds on the left side of his chest and right leg.

Though wounded, he managed to run inside his house and get his firearm.

However, his attackers already fled when he came out.

Five spent shells from a .45 pistol and five deformed slugs were found at the crime scene.

The three suspects, though, denied they were behind the shooting.

Tudela Police Chief, Senior Insp. Ramon Ortiz, said the three are from the same village as Florentino.

“They had different alibis,” Ortiz said.

They would have taken the three over last Sunday, but bad weather prevented them.

PO3 Bert Hibaya told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that because Florentino himself identified the three as his assailants, it was necessary to hold them.

Supt. Teofilo Siclot, chief of the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch, authorized the PIDMB team.

As of press time, investigators of the PIDMB were preparing the statements of Florentino and his wife. (MEA)
