Sunday, October 07, 2007 Women's world: Oh, what gift to give By Dr. Dana Ruiz-Sesante & Cindy Ruiz Garaña, R.N. Women's world
DEAR Cindy,
I have been an avid reader of your column because I enjoy the different topics and concerns each issue contains, not to mention the updates that keep me abreast with what’s “in” today.
Cindy, my husband will be celebrating his birthday next week. We’ve been married for 10 years already and during all those years he’s usually the one who lavishes me with gifts in any special occasions. He never fails to show his love and care for me. We’ve been together through all those difficult periods of adjustment in our marriage.
For his birthday, I want to show my love and gratitude to him by giving him a gift that he will truly appreciate and enjoy.
As of now, I am confused on what to look for and buy. What do you think it would be? Will it have to be expensive? Exactly what kind of a gift would be right for the man of your dreams? Any suggestions?
Minnie
Dear Minnie,
It’s good to know that even when you’ve been married for quite some time, yet you’re still so much in love with your husband and having a happy marriage. Congratulations! When you buy a gift, don’t do it as a matter of routine or because it’s convenient. Give some thought on your gift. Find out your husband’s interest likes or hobbies. Put some loving thoughts with your gift so that the recipient will truly appreciate it.
Minnie, settle for gifts that convey the right message. For instance, if you enroll him in an exercise program, he might get the message that he’s becoming fat or a couch potato at home. Sometimes a husband would just like to be pampered after a hard day’s work. Give him loving backrubs while asking about his day. Listen and refrain from nagging. A gift of service is always a gift of love.
May be your husband has an outdated cellular phone with basic features. Try to observe if he gets excited each time he sees a camera phone advertised on television or you find him drooling over special gadgets for cell phones when he’s goes grocery shopping with you.
Also make sure that the gift you’re planning to buy is within your means, that is, give a gift that you can afford. After all, it’s not the gift but the thought that comes to it.
God Bless,
Cindy
Flared nose problem
Dear Dr. Dana,
Your column is very popular here in our place. My friends have made my parlor their hang-out every Sunday just so they can read Women’s World. They are informative and we usually agree with what you advice.
Doc, I’m happiest when I am with my barkada although there are times when I feel insecure because of the differences in our physical features. While they are endowed with long and shapely noses, I am not. Though my nose is not that flat, its opening is flared. During my elementary and high school days, my classmates often teased me that I have a nose like “bell bottom pants.”
Many time I ended up “backstage,” the term for the not-so-fortunate candidates in “Ms. Gay” beauty contests.
I am thinking of correcting this problem. Is this not too vain of me? I know of a friend who has undergone the same kind of surgery and his new nose looks natural. Doc, how many days will I allow for the healing before I can go back to work?
Terrence
Dear Terrence,
Thank you so much. I enjoyed reading your letter. Extend my thanks also to your friends.
Although in the past, majority of cosmetic surgery was performed mostly on women, a number of men have become aware of cosmetic surgery. This is because more people are already aware of the benefits of possessing a pleasing personality. It’s one of the passports for personal and career success.
Cosmetic surgery is no longer for the rich and famous only. Ordinary people from all walks of life may avail themselves of it.
It is affordable. What one cannot afford is not to look good. You see, when you feel and look your best, you also improve your self-esteem. This has positive impact on your personality. It’s not vanity at all to improve your self-esteem.
Due to our high-tech machines and modern methodology, we have now attained more natural looking results which everyone desires. Give three to four days at the most for the healing process after that you can resume your normal daily activities or you can go back to work.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Dana Ruiz Sesante
