Sunday, October 07, 2007 Cable cut causes difficulties for Globe SMS
SEVERAL subscribers of Globe Telecommunications experienced difficulty in sending text messages Friday afternoon until yesterday.
Globe’s public relations head Jones Campos said a fiber optic cable was cut in Davao because of an accident.
A vehicle reportedly bumped into a post bearing the fiber optic.
Globe’s short messaging service (SMS) in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao were affected.
The company’s technical group routed the SMS traffic to its back-up facility.
Those affected were pre-paid subscribers while post-paid line holders did not feel the problem.
However, they could receive text messages and make calls.
As of yesterday noon, the system started to normalize.
Technical
Also yesterday, some areas of the south and southwestern part of Cebu experienced technical difficulties in the broadband services.
This was caused by another incident of a fiber optic cable cut due to a burned cable caused by electrical discharge.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience. Rest assured our engineers are working hard to restore both services to their optimum level the soonest possible time,” Campos said in his press statement. (MBG)
