Rookie cop accidentally shoots self

TWO field training policemen (FTP) were injured after one of them accidentally fired a gun inside Luz Barangay Hall in Cebu City last Friday afternoon.

The slug hit the left palm of PO1 Joel S. Orapa, 23, and went through the right leg of PO1 Charlie V. Dellona, 29. They were both taken to Chong Hua Hospital.

No other people inside the barangay hall were injured.

Orapa and Dellona were detailed at the barangay hall as part of their immersion training before sending them to the frontline.

The incident occurred at 5:45 p.m. Friday while Orapa and Dellona rendered their duties at the barangay hall. They are under the detach service of the Cebu City Police Office but directly under the supervision of the Regional Training School.

An investigation conducted by the Cebu City Police Homicide Section showed that Dellona and Orapa were sitting on a chair facing each other when the latter picked up the .45 pistol owned by Dellona.

Unknown to him that it was loaded, Orapa cocked the firearm. The gun went off, piercing Orapa’s palm before hitting Dellona’s leg.

CCPO Deputy Director for Operations Pablo Labra II said the CCPO could only submit a report to the FTP’s mother unit.

Imposing penalties against the FTP’s lies on their mother unit. (JST)
