Random checkpoints net 15; drugs seized

FIFTEEN people were arrested in last week’s random checkpoints that the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) launched in reaction to a series of killings in the city recently.

Started Friday night and lasting 13 hours, the operation also had policemen scouring different areas in the city, especially those identified as crime prone.

CCPO Deputy Chief for Operations Pablo Labra II led the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, Theft and Robbery Section, Mobile Patrol Group, and Special Weapons and Tactics operatives in conducting checkpoints and saturation drives.

Jordan Zabala was first arrested after he was found with a pack of suspected shabu in Sitio Baho, Barangay Ermita.

Duljo-Fatima

In a C. Padilla St. checkpoint in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, the police arrested Jerry Bulacan, Edward Salazar and Alex Radaza.

Bulacan was caught with a small pack of suspected shabu while Salazar had an Nubain ampule with him.

Radaza, on the other hand, was found with a knife. Seven others were also arrested for the same offense.

Along Maxilom Ave., police collared Remington Callera of Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla, Cebu with a .22 revolver in his possession.

Handcuffed

Police also handcuffed Roderick Cantilado and Jigger Tecson for allegedly trying to evade a checkpoint.

Labra told reporters that the operation will be sustained considering that the synchronized Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections are also fast approaching.

Acting CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador stepped up preventive patrols following the drive-by shootings last Thursday that left three people dead and four others injured. (JST with CPL of Sun.Star Superbalita)
