Tuesday, October 09, 2007 2 firms pick Cebu as host of new TV show
A HARDWARE, technology and services supplier chose Cebu as host of a furniture-making show.
It is not by chance that Ace Hardware and Robert Bosch Inc., in a partnership, chose to televise the weekly show in Cebu, Kaysee Crisostomo, Bosch public relations (PR) and corporate communications manager told the press during the live show at the SM City Cebu last week.
“The city won our support with its own merits,” Crisostomo said, adding that the producer and host of the show are also from Cebu.
He said that aside from its talented people and industrious workers, Cebu has also established a name in the country as the premier hub of the furniture industry.
It’s just logical to consider Cebu because it is the number one in the furniture business, Ace Hardware assistant vice president for operations Edwin Ting told Sun.Star Cebu.
Furthermore, organizing the show in Cebu would help assess how far the project would go in luring the market, considering that “Cebuanos are wise consumers,” Ting said.
Ting also mentioned that there was a growth in the province’s construction business this year, which indicates the boom in the Cebu economy with the rise in demand for real estate and for facilities, like hotels and restaurants, among others.
Since Cebu is also one of Ace Hardware’s top three biggest markets in terms of sales, Ting said he promised the local market that it will continue improving its services.
“Our main concern is to provide a helpful place (for consumers),” he added.
The Pangkabuhayan Furniture show, a weekly livelihood television (TV) program to be broadcast at IBC 13 every Sunday at 4 p.m., was created with the Filipinos’ entrepreneurial spirit in mind.
First episode
Its first episode was aired last Oct. 1.
It is the country’s first TV program for furniture designers and manufacturers that aims to encourage and promote the Filipinos’ world class skills and craftsmanship and serve as an inspiration for aspiring furniture makers to maximize their potential, Bosch said in a press release.
The project also aims to give their clients an educational show that would help them in their furniture business.
“We wanted to repay our customers by teaching them how to make furniture,” Ting said.
Show host and producer Almerino Paradela will be teaching basic and advanced techniques of joinery, wood lamination, staining and bending and other furniture-building activities for the audience.
Hands-on
Paradela, who developed his woodworking skills through hands-on training inspired by his own creativity and passion to build, will also share his work and techniques on how to simplify seemingly complicated projects through the Pangkabu-hayan Furniture workshop.
The show will feature step-by-step demonstrations of furniture making and home improvement tips in a do-it-yourself concept using Bosch power tools, the company said. (TEP)
