WHENEVER we see butterflies in a painting, they bring to mind the work of the renowned lepidopterist Julian Jumalon.
But the late professor wasn’t a butterfly painter. He was, to be exact, a lepido-mosaic artist who used the delicate wings of butterflies to create artworks.
Jumalon is greatly missed because he was involved in a lot of things. As founder of the Cebu Art Association (CAA), the educator generously imparted his wisdom to the members.
His impact in the art community can still be felt even to this day. The butterfly paintings of CAA member Jess Najarro are like tributes to the lepido-mosaic master.
Whenever we see live butterflies in the garden, we know that Nature is well and the environment is healthy. Did you ever feel butterflies in your stomach? Well, it’s an idiom (“to feel nervous”), but stretching it a bit, it could also mean you are fine and wonderful where Nature is concerned.
