Tuesday, October 09, 2007 Mandaue humbles MisOr in MVBA
THE Cebu Landmasters-Mandaue is streaking hot as it finished its Mindanao sojourn with a 62-48 bashing over the first conference champion Holcim Pryce Pharma-Misamis Oriental in the 2007 MVBA Second Conference at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City last Sunday.
The win gave the Landmasters a strong hold at the top of the team standings with a 5-1 win-loss slate, while the Holcim Pryce has yet to score a win after two games.
Using a tight zone defense, the Landmasters held MisOr scoreless in the final seven minutes of the game while employing a slow-paced tempo to deny the free flowing game of the host.
Leading by as many as 17 points, 37-20, in the second period, the Landmasters suddenly found a strong challenge when the crowd started to egg on Holcim Pryce, which responded with a 13-2 blitz that closed the gap to 33-39.
However, the Mandaue city-based squad answered with a telling 8-0 run to install a double-digit lead 47-33 for good.
Today, the Holcim-Pryce squad will host the Mindanao leader MP Warriors-GenSan still at the Xavier University gym, while at press time, the Misamis Oriental squad was playing the Duterte Agilas of Davao and the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala was seeking to score a repeat over the Arthro Kontra Arthritis squad at the Cebu Coliseum.
Mañigo topped the Landmasters with 13 points, while Bong Marata finished with 11. Nat Cruz was the lone MisOr player to score in double figures with 17.
The 48 points of MisOr is also a new conference-low, eclipsing the 60 scored by the Goldstar Hardware-backed Duterte Agilas-Davao last Oct. 5 against the same Landmaster quintet.
