City police to share resources

THE Cebu City Police Office is implementing changes in its strategies in the campaign against crime in the city.

Apart from fielding more policemen in the streets especially at night, CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador has come up with “resource sharing.” This means personnel from the 11 police stations can be pulled out anytime to help in saturation drives and checkpoint operations.

Not an excuse

“We lack resources but this is not an excuse for us not to do our job. What we will do is maximize resources to sustain our
anti-criminality operations,” he said.

Comendador called for a command conference yesterday afternoon to lay down the strategies he mapped out to solve the recent spate of killings in the city.

The conference was made after Comendador met with Vice Mayor Michael Rama last Monday afternoon.

Leads and testimonies from witnesses and survivors in the latest shooting incidents showed that the killings were carried out by one gunman.

Comendador and Homicide Section Chief Mario Monilar earlier announced that the gunman has been identified and that the CCPO is now tracking him.

He said that with the new strategy and adjustments implemented by CCPO, “more policemen will be on the streets, fewer (policemen) will remain in the office.”

Comendador said the task force previously created by former CCPO director Melvin Gayotin to run after fraternity members who are involved in criminalities and those who have warrants of arrest is no longer active.

But he ordered Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief George Ylanan to prioritize operations in running after fraternity members with warrants of arrest.

He also gave Ylanan a free hand to deputize policemen in police stations to help the CIIB in monitoring wanted fraternity members in the city. (JST)
