Home comes the champ

MANNY Pacquiao is set to arrive on Thursday, a day ahead of his plan after a request by Malacañang.

The president has set a special welcome meeting for Pacquiao, who united the Filipinos last Sunday with a great fight.

Pacquiao will be on the PAL flight PR 103 today from Los Angeles and will arrive in Manila Thursday morning.

Manila, led by Mayor Alfredo Lim, has arranged a grand hero’s welcome for Pacquiao, whose home General Santos City is also gearing up a warm welcome with a parade carrying its favorite son on a float around the barangays.

Cebu City is also preparing a hero’s welcome for Pacquiao.

Pacquiao trained for six weeks here and is expected to frequent the city since he is organizing and playing a basketball tournament—the 1st MP Invitational Basketball Tournament, which is scheduled to start on Oct. 14.

According to Cebu City Councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem, the city will prepare something for Pacquiao, who has given a lot for Cebu.

“We will be having a welcome for Pacquiao, but there are no final details yet,” Jakosalem told Sun.Star-Cebu.

The much chronicled training of Pacquiao at the RWS International Gym in Punta Princesa and the warm welcome of the Cebuanos, made Pacquiao feel at home in Cebu City. (RCM)
