Tour of Cebu hits Mandaue today
AFTER years in the back burner, the Omega Pain Killer Tour of Cebu will finally hit the roads today at the Mandaue North Reclamation Area.
Cyclists from all over the country will be competing not just for the team title, but also for individual honors as well. Firing the starting gun will be Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes at the Cebu International Convention Center.
As of yesterday, one more team joined, increasing the total number of participating teams to 10.
Pangasinan will be one of the teams topbilling the five-day race as it will be skippered by Tour Pilipinas Padyak Pinoy campaigner Baler Ravina, who won the dreaded killer Baguio to Baguio stage last summer.
Pangasinan will go up against nine other teams composed of cyclists representing different cities and provinces who will go head to head in the team time trial, the first of the five stages in the tour.
Another team tipped to be a title favorite and the team to watch out for is Danao City. Aside from being composed of members of the national mountainbike team Niño Surban, Eusebio Quiñones, March Aleonar, and Kennedy Guinoo and cycling patron Omie Rodriguez it is also the only team to field a lady rider in Maritess Bitbit, who happens to be a mainstay of the national teams in road and circuit racing.
