Friday, October 12, 2007 Rafi turns over new buildings
THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) turned-over three school buildings in Tabuelan and Sogod, Cebu recently.
The three-classroom and two-classroom buildings were turned over to the school authorities of Tabunok Elementary School in Tabuelan and Lubo Elementary School in Sogod, respectively.
Rafi also turned-over the Home Economics (HE) Building in Tabuelan Central School.
The school buildings are among those repaired and rehabilitated under the Foundation’s School Repair and Rehabilitation Project that started in 2004.
To date, 239 classrooms in 68 schools have already been completed. Nineteen classrooms in seven schools are undergoing repair and will be completed within the year.
Rafi implemented the project in 22 municipalities—nine in the south and 13 in northern Cebu.
Partnership
In partnership with the Cebu Schools Division, local government units (LGU) and Parents-Teachers-Community Associations, the project aims to provide academic classrooms that are safe and conducive for learning.
“The school is not only the responsibility of teachers and school head alone, but the school is the responsibility of the whole community. The improvement of the school facilities can only be achieved if the different stakeholders will join hands and be one in its goal of providing quality education to the pupils,” said Elnie Bacayo, a teacher in Lubo.
For the repair of the five classrooms and the HE building, Rafi provided construction materials worth P1.8 million, while the LGU counterpart for the labor amounted to around P1 million.
