Rock Lord By Clint Holton P. Potestas
ON “rock” fashion, Lord Maturan builds his empire. And he’s not afraid to run over the top… not even with cross dressing.
“Tailored, masculine, androgynous—the new tomboy,” muses the young designer. Growing up with siblings who listen to hardcore rock music, Lord considers it as one of the most influential inspirations he has. “My style always has a touch of rock.”
With this liberal influence, he experiments on the style construction. Fabrics, like twill and organza, are among his favorite canvasses. According to him, it allows the free flow of draping different textures.
When he says “rock,” it’s not the stereotypical dark and sinister. Splat! A splash of color appends interest in the design. And as fashion becomes more daring, obeying the rules of contrast in combining colors is a mortal sin. “It’s fashion liberation. If it looks good and comfortable on the skin, then go!” he suggests.
Before coming up with new designs, he observes the market. “Cebuanos are open to fashion; although, I am not expecting that everybody will be pleased with rock fashion. There are conservative dressers, too.”
But whatever style there is on the racks, an intelligent fashionista ponders on three principles: personality, comfort, and novelty. And with this attitude, oh boy, rock on.
