PRESIDENT Arroyo is in Cebu today for various activities, including a trip to the shipbuilding town of Balamban in western Cebu for the “christening” of a new ship.
Arroyo will come from San Miguel, Bohol for the inauguration of the Bayongan Dam-Bohol Irrigation phase 2.
She will leave Bohol on board a helicopter and land at the Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Cebu Inc. in Balamban at 11:30 a.m.
Arroyo will proceed to the Tsuneishi shipyard and lead the ceremony of a vessel that Hoegh Autoliners commissioned from Tsuneishi. This will include the traditional breaking of a bottle of champagne and the naming of the vessel-the Hoegh Manila.
Guests in the Balamban activity include Hoegh Autoliners chairman Leif Hoegh and president Thor Jorgen Guttormsen; Norway Ambassador to the Philippines Stale Torstein Risa; Tsuneishi chairman Kenji Kawalno; Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) and Balamban Mayor Alex Binghay.
Hoegh Manila will be completed in December.
By 12:30 p.m., Arroyo will leave Balamban in a helicopter and proceed to the Malacañang sa Sugbo. From there, she will proceed to the Capitol for the oath-taking of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia as chairperson of the Regional Development Council and Norris Oculam, as co-chairperson.
Certificates
The President will hand out 600 original certificates of title under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) program covering 13 municipalities in Cebu.
She will also witness the signing of four agreements, including the relocation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Central Command.
Other agreements to be signed are Rep. Benhur Salimbangon’s Jatropa Production Project, the Cebu Province History Writing Project and the establishment of exchanges and cooperation between Cebu and the Province of Ganqwon, Korea.
Arroyo will then proceed to the Teletech BPO Delivery Center on A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City. Teletech is a call center that has been operating in Cebu for a year now, but will be officially opened today.
Arroyo will lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of the company marker.
Teletech employs 1,100 in Cebu and 12,000 Filipinos in 10 centers in the country.
President Arroyo will immediately leave for Manila after the Teletech ceremony. (JGA)
