BPO firm partners with Cebu schools to get more workers

A BUSINESS process outsourcing (BPO) company has tapped the academe to provide talents for its operations in Cebu and other parts of the country.

Teletech has partnered with the University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines and the University of San Carlos, which will adjust their respective curricula to
provide qualified personnel for the company.

Teletech vice president and general manager for Asia Maulik Parekh said this is also in line with the company’s goal to help students prepare for a career in the BPO industry.

Teletech also plans to discuss a possible partnership with the Department of Education to strengthen the company’s ties with the academe, Parekh told the press before the formal launching of the firm’s Cebu office yesterday.

President Arroyo led the launching of the Teletech Cebu Delivery Center. In a statement, she acknowledged Teletech’s contribution not only in helping boost the country’s BPO industry but also in providing skills development opportunities for the Filipinos, especially those in the provinces.

Teletech business communications specialist Ryan Rodis said the company provides good salaries and health care coverage that even Filipino nurses would reconsider plans to work overseas.

He said the company also provides services to clients in various industry fields.

“The beauty about what we do (is), we have accounts that cater to their courses and field,” he said in an earlier press conference.

At present, Teletech Cebu employs about 1,000 people. It has 10 facilities in the country that employs a total of 13,000 people. (TEP)
