Online agency launches ‘job card’

TO make job-hunting easier, one of the largest online recruitment network in Asia has introduced the use of a Career Card.

JobsDB Philippines Inc. (JobsDB) product support and information technology officer Genny Gragasin said Career Card transports the online resumé from the Internet to a mobile “easy-to-carry” card that an applicant can use to apply for various job openings in different job fairs.

This means the applicant will already have his online resume encoded for free in the Career Card that can also be updated anytime, said Patrick Ledonio, JobsDB placement manager.

All the applicant has to do is bring the card to a client-company with a job opening and scan the card to upload the data into their data base via a bar-code system, he said.

“In seven to 10 minutes, you’re done,” he said.

Cost-effective

It has also become cost-effective for applicants as they will no longer have to print hundreds of resumes to be submitted to the participating companies, Ledonio said.
JobsDB country manager Jayjay Viray, in a statement, said the card levels the playing field for candidates.

“It is a sad reality that even the most qualified but underprivileged applicant may suffer discrimination because, for example, the paper he uses to print his resume is of low quality,” she said.

The introduction of the card reduces the chances of discrimination since the resume is automatically sent to the recruiter’s inbox upon scanning.

On the part of companies, getting applicants becomes hassle-free since they no longer have to carry boxes of resumes after the fair, said Philip Pogiongko, JobsDB sales manager.

Yesterday, more than 3,000 jobseekers in Cebu took advantage of the card during the Cebu Employment Fair (CEF) 2007 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

Paperless

The introduction of the card, the CEF is the first paperless job fair in Cebu, Pogiongko said.

The two-day fair which ends today is organized by JobsDB and the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines.

It has gathered 32 exhibitor-companies like Lexmark, Bigfoot, Lear and firms from the finance, sales and marketing and manufacturing sectors.

“The CEF will provide not only job opportunities but will also boost the awareness that Cebu is known for its world-class caliber manpower,” said ECCP-Cebu general manager Rose Paloma.

JobsDB, which has autonomous arms in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, China, India, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and the United States, posts at least 3,000 jobs per day.

In the Philippines, the network holds more than 700,000 membership profiles in its database and services more than 6,000 companies. (MMM)
