2 minors, suspected frat members, nabbed for robbing students

MINORS, reportedly members of a fraternity, were caught early yesterday morning after they held up two college students on P. del Rosario St., Cebu City.

Commerce student Lawrence Jorda, 18, and nursing student Sire Francis Anthony Olorvida Jorda, 17, were walking from Sto. Rosario Parish when John (not his real name), 15, of Sitio Langbu, Barangay Guadalupe approached them.

While John pulled out a .38 homemade revolver, pointed it at them and declared a hold-up, his two companions Elmer Unabya, 18, and Jason (not his real name), 16, served as lookouts.

Unabya and Jason are from Ponce, Capitol Site.

John took Lawrence’s wallet that contained P40 and an automated teller machine (ATM) card before he and his companions fled towards Pelaez St.

The victims quickly reported the incident to a nearby team of Mobile Patrol personnel who chased the suspects and recovered the handgun and wallet.

Unabya is temporarily detained at the Fuente Police Station while John and Jason were taken to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Children’s Haven.

CCPO Acting Director Patrocinio Comendador told reporters he has extended checkpoints and police patrol from evening to morning because he observed that several crimes are committed from midnight to dawn.

While the women’s desk discouraged the media to talk to the minors, the Theft and Robbery Section, which is handling the case, disclosed that the minors wouldn’t
speak yet when asked if they belong to a fraternity. Unabya reportedly has a fraternity logo etched on his back.

In another incident early yesterday morning, two minors were caught in a checkpoint on Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City for carrying knives and a .38 revolver with six live ammunitions.

Initially, Roberto (not his real name), 16, Marvin (not his real name), 17, and Ramsky Jacaban, 21, were flagged down for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle, and for overloading. It was later discovered that their motorcycle didn’t have a certificate of registration.

Jacaban drove the vehicle. He and Roberto were carrying knives while Marvin had the handgun. They are temporarily detained at the CCPO. (NRC)
