Saturday, October 13, 2007 Jail guard ‘meddles’ with rape case
A JAIL guard of the Cebu Provincial Government has allegedly intervened in a rape case in Alegria town and offered P20,000 to the police to mangle the case against a 70-year-old man.
The suspect allegedly raped a mentally retarded girl.
Lawyer Chad Estella of the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC), however, said they do not have the jail guard’s name yet.
He said the PWC is still waiting for the affidavit of the policewoman who is handling the case.
Capitol consultant Byron Garcia also said they will act on the complaint as soon as they get a copy of the affidavit.
Meanwhile, the PWC is hiding an 18-year-old rape victim after she allegedly received threats from the suspect.
The girl was allegedly raped by a lay minister.
Estella said suspicious-looking men have been frequenting the victim’s house in Paknaan, Mandaue City and the suspect, who is a bus driver of a Mandaue firm, also offered P50,000 to the girl so she will withdraw the case.
Estella said the girl is now in a safehouse.
He said the rape happened twice sometime in July.
The victim is a daughter of the suspect’s friend and kumpadre.
The victim and her family asked for help from the 50-year-old suspect to get her a job in the company that he is working for.
She then went with the suspect to the company and after that, the suspect allegedly told her to accompany him to Pasil so they can buy fish.
Instead, she was brought to a motel in Mandaue City and was allegedly raped.
She did not tell her family about it because of fear.
One day, the suspect allegedly called the victim and asked her to go to his house because a job is already available for her.
However, she was raped again and still she kept it to herself.
The same incident happened sometime in July, this time, in her house.
That was the time that the mother discovered about the abuse and reported the matter to the police.
Estella said a rape complaint has been filed against the suspect before the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office. (MBG)
