Talk back: That Limasawa adventure
By David Odilao Jr.
District Commander, CGDA-CEV

(THE letter is addressed to Sun.Star columnist Bong O. Wenceslao)

Thank you so much for remembering our Limasawa Adventure, which was given prominence in your column last Oct. 3, 2007.

A copy of Sun.Star was given to me by Bobby “Knight” Inoferio, my able deputy in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) while we were on our way to Boracay on board the BRP Batangas (SAR 004) together with some key officers of the Central Easter Visayas (CEV) district to attend our 23rd PCGA National Convention.

Indeed, that trip more than ten years ago was really one of the most unforgettable sea travel experiences of my life.

I can still recall that we were with two Danish tourists who were visitors of our good friend, the late Maning Oyson, Jr.

We will surely miss Maning, who shared that experience with the rest of the group eager to visit Limasawa aboard three pump boats to commemorate the First Catholic Mass in the Philippines.

We were in my pump boat “All the Way,” which had its maiden voyage then (the boat was not really a yacht, powered only by a 4DR5 engine).

Despite the rough seas and big waves, we were able to navigate safely to Limasawa---with our prayers and God’s blessing.

Now that our good friend Mel Petracorta is the mayor of Limasawa, I think he deserves our next adventure trip there, which we intend to do in April or May next year.

We are inviting you to join us.

Now for our unsolicited advice to our dynamic Gov. Gwen F. Garcia.

Her noble and laudable Suroy-Suroy program must be pursued during the summer months to attract more local and foreign tourists and to avoid a repeat of that “Camotes experience.”
