Saturday, October 13, 2007 Domingo to face no. 1 contender
PHILIPPINE bantamweight champion Michael Domingo will put his belt on the line for a fifth time against No. 1 challenger Roger Galicia of Mandaluyong City tonight in Calape, Bohol.
This fight is a rematch of the February 2006 bout when Domingo successfully made his second title defense with a technical knockout of Galicia, a former WBC International bantamweight champion, in the ninth round.
Carrying a 32-14-2, 12KOs ring record, Domingo goes into today’s fight in high spirits after he defeat the favored Miguel Roman of Mexico during the Boxing World Cup held in Sacramento, California in the US last Aug. 12.
Galicia, on the other hand, is coming from a split decision win over Orlan Enriquez in October last year. Galicia has a 23-8-3, 7Kos record. The year-long inactivity might affect his chances at avenging his earlier defeat.
Fighting in the undercard is the light welterweight campaigner and Philippine Jr. welterweight champion Mark Jason Melligen (8-1, 7KOs), who will face Dondon Lapuz (11-25, 7KOs) for 10 rounds.
Boholano Ricky Sismundo (6-2, 1KO) will fight Janrey Verano 16-10-2, 7KOs) also for 10 rounds.
Fast-rising and undefeated Joseph Omanz (7-0, 4KOs) will face Richard Agagad (6-2-2, 1KO) for eight rounds while Romeo Jakosalem (3-1, 2KOs) will fight Lotlot Gaviola also for 8 rounds.
Sensational KO artist James Bacon (2-0, 2KOs) will slug it out with Tata Ramuga (6-5, 3KOs) for four rounds.
Joseph Von Miñoza (1-0) will face Renan Branzuela (1-0). Jestoni Borres and Ramil Balbaguio will face each other for their first professional fights today. (RCM)
