Pet protection campaign set

AN enjoyable day is in store for families and pets on Oct. 28 at the University of the Philippines Visayas Cebu College (UPVCC), Lahug, Cebu City grounds

The event, dubbed Oktober-Pets 2007, will bring together several species of animals in an effort to promote Animal Welfare and Responsible Pet Ownership from 8 a.m to 4 p.m.

Different clubs and associations will gather dogs, horses, assorted species of birds, crocodiles and snakes to the venue.

There will also be a free clinic with health checks and rabies vaccinations, games, fun matches, dog tricks demonstrations, horseback riding and exhibits by the different clubs.

Various animals, birds and other products will also be available for sale.

An Animal Parade from the Provincial Capitol to UPVCC will kick off the activities. Participants need to assemble at the Capitol grounds for the 7:30 a.m. parade.

Dog groomers and enthusiasts are also invited to join the on-site grooming competition.

Public participation

The public is encouraged to bring their pets—dogs, cats, hamsters, sugar gliders, among others—and avail themselves of the free vaccination and other free services offered, as well as join the different games and competitions.

Numerous prizes and give-aways are in store for the public and their pets.

The participating clubs and associations in the activity are the Cebu Pitbull Club, Cebu Avian Society, Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen’s Association, the Metro Cebu Racing Pigeon Association, Crocolandia Foundation, the National Dairy Authority, Cebu Federation of Dairy Cooperatives, the Central Visayas German Shepherd Dog Association and the Canine Agility Club.

Oktober-Pets is organized by the Cebu Companion Animal Practitioner’s Association (composed of different animal clinics and hospitals in Metro Cebu), the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association-Central Visayas Chapter, the Cebu City Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries.

This event is sponsored by VIPet Spa and Hotel, Royal Canin Philippines, Aboitiz Land, Red Tag Graphics and Digital Printing, Y101, Thirsty, 2Big, Dunkin’ Donuts, Pinoy Siopao, Alpo, Cebu Eumed Pharma and special friends and pet lovers.
