Capitol to spend P21M on new cars

THE Cebu Provincial Government will be spending P21 million to purchase new service vehicles for the Provincial Board (PB) members and Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr.

The bidding of the vehicles for the 15 PB members was won by Toyota Motors.

Each board member will get a black Toyota Hi-lux worth P1.3 million.

Sanchez’s vehicle is yet to be bid out but he prefers an Isuzu Alterra, which is also worth more than P1 million.

The budget for the 16 new vehicles is contained in supplemental budget number one, which was passed during the PB’s out-of-town session in Carcar last August.

The PB members are presently using Isuzu Fuego but the cars are already more than six years old.

PB Member Victor Maam-bong, vice chairman of the budget committee, said it is more practical to get a new vehicle because the government is also spending so much for the maintenance of the cars they are using.

Maambong said it will be better to let go of the cars and get new ones.

Sanchez is using an Isuzu Trooper and it is also more than six years old.

Four car companies joined the bidding— Mitsubishi, Ford, Isuzu and Toyota.

PB Member Wenceslao Gakit said Toyota offered them a three-year warranty for services and most of them also find Toyota products durable and the availability of parts is not a problem.

The new cars for the PB members are expected to be delivered within the week. (MBG)
