Pals’ power trio returns

AFTER a long absence, RP team mainstays, Ren-Ren Ritualo, Jimmy Alapag and Asi Taulava are back as Talk ’N Text Phone Pals faces Alaska Aces, while Sta. Lucia Realty meets Purefoods today in the resumption of the 33rd Smart-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Phone Pals, who badly missed the force of Ritualo, Alapag and Taulava, will collide with their Fiesta Conference tormentor Aces at 7:20 p.m.
Sta. Lucia will play Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants in the first match at 4:35 p.m.

With the three again in the team, other coaches and team officials in the league are rating Dela Cerna wins 1st leg highly Frederick Pumaren’s Phone Pals in the All-
Filipino conference.

But how the three will blend with Mark Cardona, Harvey Carey, Anthony Washington, Yancy de Ocampo and Don Allado will be most interesting to watch in today’s game.

Cardona, De Ocampo, Allado, Carey and Washington ably filled up the vacuum that sent them to the finals even without Taulava, Ritualo and Alapag, while they were donning the RP national jersey in the Fiba-Asia Championship last August.

The Aces, who lost only Tony de la Cruz to the RP squad, are expected to show the same stuff that enabled them to capture the import-laden Fiesta Conference.

Aside from de la Cruz, the Aces will also display newcomers JR Quiñahan, and Kenneth Bono along with old reliables Mike Cortez, Joachim Thoss, Eddie Laure, Wllie Miller, Jeffrey Cariaso and John Ferriols.

Coach Ryan Gregorio of Purefoods will lean on James Yap, Rommel Adducul, Roger Yap, Marc Pingres, Kerby Raymundo and Noy Castillo against th squad of coach Boet Fernandez, which is anchored on Kelly Williams, Marlou Aquino, Dennis Espino, Joseph Yeo, Paolo Mendoa and Melvin Mamaclay. (FCC)
