15 cars for sale as PB awaits new rides

EVEN if the Cebu Provincial Government will spend P21 million to buy new service vehicles for the Provincial Board (PB) members, it also expects to earn at least P6 million when it sells the vehicles these PB members are using now.

The Capitol will soon be accepting bidders for the 15 Isuzu Fuego units now being used by the PB members, with bids starting at P423,000 each.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia explained that by buying new vehicles, the Province hopes to save on maintenance costs.

Also, it is the ideal time to dispose of the Fuego units as these are still six years old. “The resale value is still high... That’s running government like a corporation, government as an enterprise,” Garcia said.

The winning bidder for the purchase of 15 new vehicles is Toyota Motors.

The Province will get 15 black Toyota Hi-lux at P1.3 million each, which is lower than the usual price of P1.5 million. Toyota also offered a three-year service warranty for all the vehicles the Province will buy.

Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr., who is presently using an Isuzu Trooper, will also get a new vehicle, for which the Capitol has yet to hold the bidding.

He prefers an Isuzu Alterra, which also costs more than P1 million.

The appropriation for the new vehicles is among the items in the supplemental budget that the PB passed during its out-of-town session in Carcar last August.

Four companies joined the bidding. (MBG)
