Thursday, October 18, 2007 Gorres’ injury forces pullout
ALA Boy Z “The Dream” Gorres will miss his fight with Colombian Jonathan Perez at the end of this month after the Cebuano injured his hand in sparring the other day.
The Perez vs. Gorres fight would have served as one of the main attractions in the World Boxing Organization Convention later this month in Puerto Rico.
However, Gorres’ injury has forced the cancellation of the fight.
“We regret to inform you that Z Gorres sprained his wrist during his sparring session today which will certainly affect his training period for the remaining days before the Oct. 31st scheduled fight during the WBO Convention,” read an e-mail from the camp of Gorres to WBO that was forwarded to Sun.Star Cebu.
Though Gorres’ injury isn’t that severe, Cebu boxing patron Antonio L. Aldeguer said it could still affect his performance in the fight should it push through.
The winner of the Gorres vs. Perez fight would have been the mandatory challenger to WBO super flyweight king Fernando Montiel.
Gorres has already fought Montiel but lost a controversial split decision in their fight here last February. (ESL)
