Motorshow to boost trade in auto industry

THE 8th Cebu Motor-show is expected to encourage trade and promote businesses in Cebu.

Philippine Exhibition and Trade Corp. (Petco) chairman Jose Luis Yulo Jr. said the benefits of the motorshow, in terms of trade and business promotion, will be "10 times more" than the event's financial earnings.

"The (non-monetary) benefits will be tremendous," he said.

He told news reporters during the opening of the motorshow at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) last Tuesday that the event is not expected to rake in huge sales but will get many people interested in motor vehicles and in the automotive industry.

The exhibition would also allow the public to see new technology used in motor vehicles, he said.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who led the opening of the motorshow, said she was "very impressed by the artistry of the exhibitors."

Previous Cebu motor shows were held in Metro Manila because of the lack of ample space for the exhibit.

With the CICC, the motorshow has found a good venue in Cebu, Petco said in a statement.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) transport committee head Felix Taguiam said the CCCI supports the motorshow as it is expected to boost the income of small and medium enterprises and the economy, in general.

He said motorshows are especially helpful to distributors of vehicle accessories who could hardly afford to advertise. (TEP)
