Accident leads to capture of rape suspect in Talisay
POLICE arrested a man minutes after he allegedly sexually abused a 30-year-old widow in a vacant lot in Barangay Lawaan I, Talisay City Wednesday night.
Shortly before his arrest, Jojo Rellon, 25, of Balirong, Naga, Cebu, was hit by a vehicle while crossing the Lawaan highway and beaten by bystanders.
An investigation showed that the complainant, who works as a helper in a private village, was walking along the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) when the suspect allegedly appeared from behind and covered her mouth around 7:30 p.m.
The victim was on her way home to Barangay Mohon, Talisay.
Police said that Rellon then allegedly dragged her to a vacant grassy lot near a private subdivision along the CSCR.
However, the subdivision guard reportedly spotted the duo, prompting him to call the Talisay City Police Station immediately for assistance.
Minutes later, a police team led by PO3 Edwin Alvarado arrived and accosted the suspect.
Rellon reportedly punched the PNP civilian driver and scampered towards the national highway.
During the chase, however, Rellon got hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing the highway, injuring his leg and causing him to fall near a gas station in Lawaan I.
Lawmen came to his rescue as he was reportedly mauled by bystanders when they learned he allegedly abused a woman. Rellon was reportedly drunk. He attended a birthday party before the incident.
Fatal crossing
Meanwhile, a pedestrian died when a motorcycle hit him while walking along the national highway in Lawaan I past 6 p.m. Tuesday.
