Speak out: Senator Santiago’s anti-Sino comment
By Heirs of the late
Jose Ong Tiampo
Banilad, Cebu City

IF indeed it is true, as claimed by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, that the Chinese invented corruption, then most probably she is herself a by-product of that invention.

Had Miriam been given the sacred task of authoring the Book of Genesis, she would have located the Garden of Eden in the middle of China.

The public anti-Sino side comment of the lady senator, even if made in jest, was irresponsible, thoughtless, racist and derogatory to the yellow race.

The senator is, to say the least, a wild glib tongue in the Senate, which is itself suffering from some brain drain or brain damage or both.

We have lost admiration for and sympathy with a body politic that votes for public office politicians in the likes of Miriam Defensor Santiago and other politicians worse than her.

But in a country where senility is often mistaken for wisdom, streaks of insanity for genius, a good command of a foreign language for intelligence and an act of bravado for patriotism, and in a country where the IQ of the majority of its electorate is lower than their basic needs, we are not or should not be surprised.

God save this country!
