‘Drunk’ cop from Negros arrested

A POLICEMAN from Oriental Negros was arrested for drunkenness, possession of a firearm and violation of the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

PO1 Alexander Castro Ledo Jr., 30, was caught brandishing his .45 pistol in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City Thursday dawn.
He was reportedly “very drunk and unruly.”

His actions alarmed residents and bystanders in the area and caught the attention of PO1 Joseph Omar Villamor, who is assigned at the Police Security and Protection Office.

Villamor placed him under arrest and turned him over to the responding members of the Mobile Patrol Group who, in turn, brought him to the Parian Police Station.

Seized

The .45 pistol, two magazines and 14 live bullets were seized from his possession.

Lado tested positive in a liquor test administered at the Cebu City Medical Center.

Because he failed to produce an exemption from the Comelec authorizing him to bring a firearm, he was charged with violation of the gun ban.

Police are only exempted from the gun ban if they are on official duty.

Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Co-mendador said Lado is assigned with the Oriental Negros Provincial Mobile Group.

Lado is now detained at the Parian Police Station after he filed a waiver of detention, allowing him to undergo a preliminary investigation.

He declined to talk when approached at the detention cell. (MEA)
