Board members get new service vehicles

CEBU Provincial Board (PB) members got their new service cars yesterday.

Toyota Motors Phils. Inc. turned over the keys of 15 Black Mica Hilux to the PB members.

The vehicles were also blessed yesterday.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia led the turnover ceremony, with most of the PB members present along with Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr.

Sanchez will also soon get his new service vehicle, possibly an Isuzu Alterra.

Regular price

The Province set aside P21 million for the 15 Toyota Hilux at P1.3 million each, which is lower than the regular price of P1.5 million. Toyota also offered a three-year service warranty for the vehicles.

The budget for the 16 new vehicles, including that of Sanchez, is contained in this year’s first supplemental budget, which was passed during the PB’s out-of-town session in Carcar City last August.

More practical

PB Member Victor Maam-bong, vice chairman of the budget committee, earlier defended the purchase, saying it is more practical to get a new vehicle because the government is also spending so much for the maintenance of the cars they are using.

The PB members’ previous vehicles were Isuzu Fuego, which have been running for more than six years. Sanchez is using an Isuzu Trooper, which is also more than six years old.

While the Province spent for the new vehicles, it also expects to earn at least P6 million when it sells the Isuzu Fuegos. Capitol will soon be accepting bidders for the 15 Isuzu Fuego units now being used by the PB members, with bids starting at P423,000 each.

According to Toyota, the Hilux is part of its Innovative multi-purpose vehicle Project.

“This vehicle sets the bar higher for pick-up standards with advanced global exterior styling, luxurious interior combined with spaciousness and comfort.”

Toyota has a 39.9 percent share in the Philippine’s pick-up market. (JGA)
