Dawn fire razes warehouse

A WAREHOUSE of an establishment engaged in selling construction materials was destroyed in a dawn fire on Highway Tagunol, Barangay Basak in Cebu City yesterday.

No one was reported hurt, but the fire destroyed an estimated P3 million worth in property and construction materials of Budget Builders Inc. owned by Esperanza Lumacang.

Information gathered by fire investigator SFO3 Felix Romero from security guard Andres Rosales indicated that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Rosales told Romero that at 4:42 a.m. he heard “some sketchy sounds” near the main switch, prompting him to inspect the area.

He reportedly saw electrical wires connected to the main switch already in flames. Rosales immediately called the fire department for assistance.

Apart from the Cebu City Fire Department, trucks from the Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade and Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation also came to help.

The fire, which was raised to third alarm status, was declared under control 48 minutes after the firefighters arrived. (JST)
