Wives of Talisay dads vie for village chief
IT’S going to be a close fight in Barangay San Isidro as spouses of two Talisay City legislators are vying for the village’s top post in the Oct. 29 elections.
Both Ma. Adelaida Res-tauro, an incumbent San Isidro councilor, and Marietta Bucao, a businesswoman, filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for barangay captain in last Thursday’s deadline of the Commission on Elections.
Opposition
Ma. Adelaida is the wife of City Councilor Serrie Restauro while Marietta is the spouse of City Councilor Alan Bucao, who belongs to the opposition.
Political observers believe the electoral exercise in San Isidro is going to be a neck-and-neck fight between Ma. Adelaida and Marietta.
In the last May 14 polls, Alan, who ranked first in the 10-seat City Council, garnered more than 2,000 votes in San Isidro.
He was reportedly ahead only by less than 100 votes of Serrie, an eye-ear-nose-throat physician.
Vote-rich
San Isidro has more than 7,000 voting population, making it the second largest vote-rich barangay of Talisay, next to Tabunok.
Others said that Ma. Adelaida would have the edge over other candidates as she gets the support of incumbent San Isidro Barangay Captain Regino Sanchez.
Sanchez is running for councilor under the slate of Ma. Adelaida, as he already completed his third and last term.
Aside from the two, incumbent Councilors Clau-dio Parba, Giovanni Her-nani and Virgilio Arcelo are also vying for barangay chairmanship in San Isidro.
Reelection
Meanwhile, majority of the incumbent village chiefs in Talisay’s 22 barangays are seeking reelection in the Oct. 29 polls.
Among them are Association of Barangay Councils President Osmundo Manreal Jr. of Barangay Pook, Celiapo “Semy” Ca-buenas of Barangay Lag-tang, Maning Cabriana of Tabunok, Charles Basillote of Dumlog, Sedronico Olandag of Bulacao, Cesar Abapo of San Roque, Ronald Lastimosa of La-waan 1, Oliver Berador of Lawaan 2, Marlowe Da-gohoy of Biasong, Jose Juarez of Tapul, Placido Labajo of Jaclupan, Marcial Bregondo of Camp 4, Rey-naldo Sedentario of Linao, Loreto Silva of Manipis, and Josefina Concial of Can-dulawan.
