Balamban women’s volley commands respect

BALAMBAN maintained a steady performance to cop the championship diadem of Cluster 3 of the 3rd Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women last Sunday in Aloguinsan.

Balamban, who for the past three stagings of the tournament, had to settle for bridesmaids’ finish to perennial champion Toledo, finally hit pay dirt when it collared the cluster title after sweeping all of its games.

Without Toledo, which is now with the city cluster, Balamban was able to spread its wings as no one will get in their way anymore.

Twin wins

Balamban capped its bid with two victories last Sunday over Asturias and Aloguinsan. It defeated Asturias 25-10, 25-12, and Aloguinsan, 25-18, 25-10 to add to its other win over Barili, 25-17, 25-19 last Saturday. Balamban ended its campaign with an immaculate 4-0 win-loss record, to take the victory.

Tuburan, meanwhile, was breathing on Balamban’s neck as it settled for the runnerup diadem with a 3-1 record, with its loss handed by Balamban.

Games

Tuburan’s victories were at the expense of Barili, 25, 23, 22,25, 25,21, Asturias, 25-28, 25-13 and Aloguinsan, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22.

Balamban and Asturias join the top two teams from Clusters 1 and 2 in the knockout round, where they go up against the other top two teams from five other clusters.

The champion team in this province-wide tournament will get P100,000. (MCB)
