WE wish to correct some information in the story, “BPO firm mulls 8 expansion sites in RP, will hire more for Cebu office,” published on Oct. 17, 2007 in this section.

* Teletech will not generate 900,000 jobs in 2010, as reported. Instead, it expects to increase its number of employees in the Philippines to 15,000 by the end of the year.

The company has a total of 13,000 employees in 10 offices across the country.

The 900,000 jobs referred to in the article was the National Government’s forecast for the entire business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the country for 2010. At present, there are roughly 300,000 employees in the country’s BPO sector.

Teletech chief executive officer Ken Tuchman told President Arroyo earlier, though, that the firm plans to increase its Philippine work force to 25,000 by the end of 2009.

* At present, Teletech Cebu has about 900 employees. It is planning to increase its employees to 1,500 – or create 600 additional jobs – by January or February next year. Teletech does not expect to grow its Cebu operations to 15,000 employees, as reported earlier.

* Maulik Parekh of Teletech did not confirm if one of the future expansion sites of the company will be in Tacloban City. —Editor
