Woman shot to death by frat man
A FRATERNITY member, whose group has been tagged in several gang-related killings, shot dead his lady neighbor who failed to give him water in Mandaue City.
The armed suspect who was only identified as Reynan allegedly wrestled with 57-year-old Anecita Ortega, who tried to ward off his revolver, until he overpowered her and shot her twice in the back inside her house in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Alang-Alang about 1 p.m. last Monday.
Station Police Chief Senior Insp. Siegfred Torribio yesterday said they are now searching in an undisclosed area where Reynan is believed to be hiding.
The crime scene is the same spot where a member of the same notorious fraternity chased and shot dead Benjamin Barquero last Aug. 9. Barquero’s relatives are crying for justice as the gunman still remains free.
In Monday afternoon’s incident, members of the said fraternity were having a drinking session in an open area in front of Ortega’s house. Torribio said Reynan became drunk and unruly as he picked on the victim’s children and relatives.
“He reportedly kept on touching them,” Torribio said.
When Reynan went to fetch water beside Ortega’s house, she refused and reprimanded him.
Torribio said this angered Reynan, who barged inside Ortega’s house holding a gun.
Sensing danger, Ortega wrestled for the gun but was overpowered. Ortega ran towards her room but Reynan shot her four times, hitting her in the back twice.
Police then responded, but Reynan already left.
They brought Ortega to the Cortes General Hospital, where she died.
Torribio said Sitio Sudlon is a known lair of the fraternity where Reynan belongs.
“This is where they hang out,” said Torribio, saying this is what happened last Aug. 9 when the alleged fraternity member ran into trouble with his female companion.
The gunman banged the head of his lady companion on the concrete fence, prompting a resident in the area, Barquero, to intervene. This gained the suspect’s ire and he confronted the victim.
He chased and repeatedly shot Barquero, killing the businessman on the spot.
Former Station 1 commander Abraham Ocampo said they already filed a murder case against the suspect, who remains at large. (OCP)
