Z gets dream fight

FEARLESS and stylistic fighter Z “The Dream” Gorres is now being considered by his US promoters, the Golden Boy Promotions, to challenge the newly crowned Dimitri Kirilov of Russia for the IBF super flyweight belt.

Kirilov won the vacant IBF title after defeating American Jose Navarro by unanimous decision last Oct. 13 in Moscow.

Gorres is currently ranked No. 7 contender of the IBF belt while the No.1 and No.2 are not filled.

Golden Boy Promotion has considered Gorres to be a world champion in the making and still has an existing contract with the Oscar dela Hoya-owned promotional outfit.

Dela Hoya himself considered Gorres fight Kirilov to give the Mandaue City fighter a chance to fulfill his dream.

Gorres had his chance to be crowned world champion, but was denied the precious win last Feb. 24 here in Cebu City where he lost by a controversial split decision loss to Fernando Montiel.

Last August, Gorres displayed his rare technical gift and speed when he clobbered former world champion Eric Ortiz of Mexico to submission in the eighth round in an IBF super flyweight eliminator and IBF Inter-Continental championship last Aug. 11 in Sacramento, California.

Gorres was scheduled to fight on Oct. 31 for an eliminator bout in Puerto Rico for the WBO Annual Convention but he was pulled from the card after he sprained his wrist in training.

Gorres is sporting a 27-2-1, 15 KOs record, while Kirilov is carrying a 29-3, 9 KOs record.

If this fight materializes, a very tactical game awaits boxing audience, where style and determination is going to prevail. (RCM)
