New Knights beat Lancers
UNIVERSITY of the Visayas guards Von Harry Lanete and Chris Diputado and captain Ariel Mepaña, the main protagonists of the team, proved to be UV’s source of life.
Playing without them, UV, the unparalleled seven-time champion of the Cebu Schools Athletic Association, was in shambles, as it lost to little-known Asian College of
Technology Cyber Knights, 73-84, in the Inter-School Basketball tournament in Lapu-Lapu City last Monday.
Without their main gunners, it was UV’s prized 6-foot-11 center Greg Slaughter, who stepped up for the team as he was the lone Lancer to score in double digits as he tallied 20 points for UV’s losing cause.
The Fil-Am’s one-man show failed to take UV to victory as the Cyber Knights ganged up on the hapless Lancers. Ritchum Dennison, UV’s asset from the three-point lane, only registered 8 points.
Prospeto Batiancila led the Cyber Knights scorers with 18 markers, while Adelbert Nuñez and JC Ver Pagaguya added 15 and 13 points respectively.
The Cyber Knights, which was denied entry to become member of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., lost to the University of San Jose Recoletos in its last outing. USJ-R is another Cesafi-member school.
