Espina: Tourism perks
By Mila C. Espina
In my diary

CEBU will always have something new to perk up tourism. That’s why we are unbeatable in tourism arrivals and has always been the big earner in the industry in the entire nation.

The PARKLANE hotel had a presscon to introduce its new manager, Cenelyn Maquilinotan, and the other heads, Jayvee Aquino for marketing and communications;

Butch de la Fuente, for food and beverage; and Dominic Doral for sales and marketing. It was the best time to introduce the new array of dishes at Manuel’s in the lobby as well as the new concept of The Parklane as the corporate hotel. Cenelyn said that they are now looking into re-inventing their manual of operations and services to suit its new branding.

Meanwhile, Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort had a good crowd during the relaunching of the Cove restaurant, which offers nourishing seafoods enhanced by a scenic view of the clear seas. Consul Dodong Alegrado mentioned the successful developments in Sumilon and other parts of the Visayas which he considers their family’s contribution in accelerating tourism.

THE PUNLA SCHOLARS

Three Punla Inc. scholars enrolled in the University of the Philippines high school made it as delegates in the YMCA National Assembly in Baguio City.

These top students in their classes are Dan Clever Gigantone, Mary Issandra Flores and Nina Alfeche. Adviser Purita Baltazar is also preparing for the Culture of Tourism seminar sometime in November.

Meanwhile, the Univeristy of San Jose-Recoletos Punla scholars had a general assembly with their parents and adviser Nellie Dosado. They discussed the goals and values of the foundation, specifically on good manners and right conduct, study habits and the virtues of honesty, truthfulness, patriotism and respect for others.

The funding chairman of Punla Inc. is Dr. Norberto Quisumbing Jr.

EVENTS

Tapa King, located in Banilad Town Center, is the new place to dine in. With 20 years in business and 30 outlets in Manila, this popular eating place will certainly delight us. Kudos to Mary Ann Benedicto and the rest of the family for making Cebu part of the Tapa King chain. My congratulations also to the Kishanta Zen Residences launched just recently and Mango at Ayala for its grand opening. The Zonta 1 and 2 had a joint meeting at the Casino Espanol.

Birthday greetings to Joseph Gaisano, Fr. Hernando Coja, Nonie Uy, Margie Visitacion; and more fruitful years to the Laguna Garden And Café Laguna on their anniversary. Watch out for the reinvention of the Cebu Visitors Convention Bureau under the leadership of Jay Aldeguer. Cebu, you are indeed interesting!
