Know your tasks: priest to poll winners

NEWLY elected barangay officials should know the boundaries of their responsibilities, said an official of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay, Cebu Archdiocese media liaison officer told Sun.Star Cebu, in a phone interview, that barangay officials “should act like barangay officials” and not as “mayors” in town.

He said they should limit themselves in the barangay, because some officials become “great pretenders” when they are already elected in office.

Some would extend their powers beyond the boundary of their areas of responsibility, Dakay said.

He said they are elected as barangay officials to serve their barangay and they should do their responsibilities on that level.

They should be able to accept who they are and do their responsibilities according to their positions, he said.

As the Sangguniang Kabataan officials, Dakay said they should focus on the youth and not do more than their age is capable of doing.

“They are still students, young and single, so they should focus on projects that cater to this level,” he said. (TEP)
