New bry. officials to assume posts on Nov. 30: DILG

OUTGOING barangay officials can start their inventory now to pave the way for the assumption of election winners at noon of Nov. 30.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7 Director Pedro Noval said that village leaders may already start checking on barangay items.

Inventory

The inventory will include equipment, finances, and other properties, including documents of the barangay.

“At noon on Nov. 30, the new officials can immediately discharge their roles and functions in the barangay,” Noval said in a phone interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Voters chose new barangay and youth officials during last Monday’s elections, some five months after the national elections.

The last synchronized elections were in 2002 yet.

It should have been in 2005 but was reset because of the economic crisis that time.

The 13th Congress called for the postponement.

Winners of the 2002 barangay and SK elections enjoyed an extension of their terms.

The Commission on Elections assessed last Monday’s elections as generally peaceful.

Most hitches include loss of names in the voters list, lack of ballots and reported vote-buying and a brownout in a component city.

Confrontation

A confrontation was also reported last Monday in Barangay Cayang, Bogo City involving Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. and two persons, one of whom was identified as lawyer Allan Talisaysay Maamo.

No violence happened, unlike in the May 14 polls when trouble erupted over the snatching of ballot boxes. (JGA)
