HOMETEAM Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) managed to take the most number of titles in the third AVGCC JunGolf Challenge which wrapped up yesterday.
The homegrown golfers collected five titles in different events in the two-day competition. Spearheading the charge was Edsel Tan, who not only pulled off a come from behind victory to win the Class A title but also collared the overall gross champion.
Tan, who trailed Day 1 leader Noel Langganin of Del Monte, pulled an impressive 66 in the final day, for a two-day total of 145.
Art Arbole of Del Monte and Charles Daniel Uy of Cebu Country Club (CCC) took the next two spots.
Angelo Jose Gandionco added another feather in Alta Vista’s cap when he blew away his opponents for an emphatic win in Class C.
Gandionco, who scored a 75 on the first day, improved with a 71 on the final day for a 146. Second placer Martin Christopher Maghrablian of Apo Golf was almost 20 strokes back with 161, while JP de Claro of Makati had 164.
Performance
Another winner for Alta Vista was Irina Gabasa, who took the Girls Class B. Gabasa overpowered two other CCC golfers after capping her performance with an 81 for a total of 157 to win the crown.
Stephanie Olea and Kristine Mae Uy were at second and third with 175 and 180, respectively.
Alta Vista’s completed their victorious run when they won the team competition after the combined scores of Gabasa, Tan, Gio Gandionco and Harvey Sytiongsa—616—topped the field.
Del Monte came in next, while Mactan Island Golf and Country Club settled for third place.
Meanwhile, Jae Yang of Negros won the Boys Special Division, which saw Banny Abanio and Bayani Garcia taking the second and third spots, respectively.
Mactan’s Vijay Vasandani II, on the other hand, copped the title in Class B with a 157 with Clyde Mondilla and Andres Saldaña completing the top three.
Yash Madmujar took the top spot in Class D over Jelbert Gamolo and Sebastian Lorenzi, while Shailesh Vasandani, who had 81, won Class E over Alta Vista’ Gao Weiwei by seven strokes.
In the distaff side, Del Monte’s Apple Fodulin topped Class C, while Rachita Vasandi and Lois Kay Go took the top spots in Class D and Class E, respectively. (MCB)
