Fire destroys 3 houses in Tejero

A MIDDAY fire hit an interior portion of Villagonzalo 2 in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City, razing three houses and damaging four others yesterday.

The Cebu City Fire Department received the call for assistance at 11:54 a.m.

Since the area is thickly populated, the fire department raised the status to second alarm so all the fire sub-stations in the city will respond.

Firefighters from the Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade and Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation arrived to help in putting out the fire.

Boy scouts from the Tejero Night High School also assisted by keeping the crowd away from the fire scene and later helped carry the hoses back to the trucks.

It only took five minutes for the firefighters to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the other houses.

Damaged to property was initially pegged at P140,000. No one was reported hurt.

Ongoing probe

Information gathered by fire investigator SFO1 Alikasem Espinola showed that the fire started at the house of Juliet Deguitos.

Espinola is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Mark Deguitos, a relative of Juliet’s husband Harold, said in an interview with reporters at the fire scene that they were taking their lunch when they noticed a fire at the second floor of the two-story house.

Mark said he does not know what caused the fire because he and the other members of the family did not smell anything that might have triggered the fire. (JST)
