Saturday, November 03, 2007 Speak out: Changes in Mandaue City By Archt. Panfilo Castro Jr. Alang-alang, Mandaue City
AS a resident of Mandaue City, I am happy about the changes taking place within the city center.
The "very expensive" public market built by the previous administration is now taking shape.
Thanks to the efforts of the current administration, our market vendors will finally have a clean public market, and NOT on the streets beside St. Joseph Academy.
Speaking of streets, it is also very obvious that churchgoers of the Catholic-dominated City of Mandaue are happy with the removal of the plaza.
We now have an "easier access to the house of God."
And traffic within the “central” area is now evidently fluid.
The statues of the heroes of Mandaue will soon be placed at their original positions, where they so rightly deserve the recognition and honor.
These personalities include A.S. Fortuna.
We all know who he is, and we all know what he has done for Mandaue.
We all know he deserves a place where he can be honored.
So why is Mayor Jonas Cortes being endorsed for suspension by the very descendant of the great A.S. Fortuna?
Would the Fortunas rather be happy to see Thadeo Z. Ouano (TZO) blue concrete benches in place instead of their great grandfather’s statue?
What has TZO done in comparison with A.S. Fortuna?
So what the hell is wrong with the Mandaue City Council?
Here is a mayor who is only trying to make Mandaue, a city that was once rich in history, heroism, pride, and honor, a better place to live.
The current administration is new and fresh, but it is evidently trying to make a difference, and the difference is well appreciated by the people of Mandaue.
Well, maybe not all, because a few still insist on gaining attention despite the fact that they are getting a dose of negative attention.
I am a tax payer of Mandaue, and I did not pay my taxes to pay the salaries of people who spend eight hours a day trying to file cases, complaints and resolutions against moves that are obviously good for the city of Mandaue.
I did not pay my taxes so the money will be spent on TZO concrete benches instead of statues honoring the great heroes of Mandaue.
I did not pay my taxes so that our poor market vendors would lay their goods on street sides, instead of them having a nice and clean public market.
I did not pay my taxes to be demoralized by “professionals” who have nothing to show but negative pride, and who lack human heart.
