Sunday, November 04, 2007 Gang war’s latest fatality
THE jeepney driver who was shot by a 17-year-old gang member last Friday afternoon died minutes after he was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.
The bullet entered Jeffrey Cañete’s forehead and exited the back of his head.
The 26-year-old victim and his friend Mark Sasana were sitting near the sports complex of Barangay T. Padilla at 1:30 p.m. when the gunman approached and asked why they were staring at him.
The gunman fired two shots in the air and told the two to leave the area.
Sasana ran away but Cañete stayed behind.
3 shots
The gunman shot Cañete thrice, but only the last shot found its mark.
PO2 Julius Mabunay said the gunman had a grudge against Cañete over a conflict between the suspect’s sibling and the victim.
Police are conducting a manhunt against the suspect, whose name homicide investigators won’t reveal because he is a minor.
They also need to determine if the suspect acted with discernment when he carried out the crime before filing a complaint against him. (JST)
