Vegetable trader shot, killed in Balamban by lone gunman

A 57-year-old vegetable trader was shot and killed in Poblacion, Balamban, Cebu last Tuesday night.

Dionisio Tabor, who resided in the mountain barangay of Magsaysay along the Transcentral Highway in Balamban town, southwestern Cebu died minutes after he was taken to Balamban District Hospital.

A land dispute is being looked into by the police as the motive behind the killing.

PO2 Hannibal Lareda, desk officer of Balamban Police Station, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said a lone gunman perpetrated the crime at 6:05 p.m. last Tuesday along A. S. Binghay St., Poblacion, Balamban.

Tabor was reportedly driving his Suzuki multicab and was heading to a gasoline station after delivering vegetables when the gunman shot him.

A slug pierced Tabor’s right arm and entered his body through the armpit.

A witness, who happened to pass by the area, rushed Tabor to the district hospital. Tabor, however, died minutes later.

Lareda said Balamban Police Station Chief Anthony Bagarinao went to Barangay Magsaysay yesterday morning to get leads from the victim’s family.

A land dispute could have driven the gunman to kill Tabor, Lareda said.

The gunman, however, may have just been paid to carry out the crime because no one from Magsaysay could identify him based on the descriptions given by the witness.

They described the gunman as 5’7” tall, slim built and had long hair. He was reportedly wearing a cap when he killed Tabor. (JST)
