Speak out: Senatorial election should be regional
By Andres C. Vergara
Barangay Patupat, Barili, Cebu

CANDIDATES for senators of our Muslim countrymen in Mindanao rarely make it during elections because majority of the country’s voters are Christians.

Our nation is a democratic republic, and we have adopted its democratic slogan, “liberty, equality and fraternity.”

To give life to this slogan, and in order to maintain the firmly united sentiments of our people (from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao), our honorable lawmakers should come up with a law that would mandate that senatorial polls should be regional.

If this proposal will be accepted by majority of our people, then the democratic slogan, “liberty, equality and fraternity,” will become a reality and political campaign expenses during elections will be reduced.
