Thursday, November 08, 2007 Speak out: Problematic parish By Ryan Fontaniel
I AM a resident of Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base. Everything went on smoothly in our parish until now.
I really don't understand what is happening in our chapel, especially after a new parish priest was assigned to the area and the parish pastoral council elected a new set of officers.
I think that the priest, as head of the parish, has more authority than the pastoral council president.
Pastoral council officers were elected because the parishioners believe they are capable of leading the parish to the right track. Instead, they are making the parish unruly with their destructive criticisms.
They should remember that their main concern is not to be applauded but to be true to their commitment to serve God heartily and truly.
Meanwhile, the pastoral council president has no authority to tell the priest whom he should appoint to help the chapel.
And for our parish priest, I hope you will pray fervently so that God will enlighten you and give you wisdom to know who is telling the truth.
You should learn to listen and weigh things carefully without any biases.
Be firm in your decision and don’t let parish council officials overrule you.
