Meza: I will beat Bautista in front of his people

ANTONIO “Barrio” Meza is looking past Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista.

Meza, who will fight Bautista in Payback this Dec. 2, said he is ready for the 21-year old Filipino ringster and is even looking forward his next quest.

“It is a challenge that I can surpass... I can go there (Manila) and bring my ticket to go for the world title against WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon,” Meza told Mexican boxing website Notifight.com.

The site also revealed that Meza’s professional fight record is 33-2 with 23 wins by knockout, contrary to the record posted at boxrec.com which has Meza only with a 23-2, 16 KOs card.

Meza will wind up his training camp on Nov. 26 and will fly to Manila together with his trainer.

“The opportunity arrived and I am preparing conscientiously... I have seen fights of Bautista, but I am a fighter who doesn’t like to study the videos of my opponents and I don’t worry about it. For me, I will make necessary decisions,” Meza said in the site.

Underdog

Meza knows that he is the underdog since Bautista will be fighting in front of thousands of Filipinos but he is confident that he can beat the Boholano fighter.

“I am going to row against the current, nevertheless, I have the technical and physical resources to do the task against him before his people,” Meza said.

Meza added he doesn’t feel insecure in fighting in the Philippines, as it even motivated him more because he can showcase his talent and show he is ready to become a world champion.

“Many Mexicans (fighters), they leave our country to fight for eliminations or seek the world titles, why can’t I?”

Meza, who lives in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, was handpicked by the Third Force Promotions to fight Bautista, who is seeking to make his first return after losing to de Leon last Aug. 11. (RCM)
